The Diana Flap
Chapter I
The Diana carries the same diamond-quilted lambskin and gold CC turn-lock as Chanel’s other flap bags of the era. What sets it apart is the leather border running along the edge of the flap — a frame the Classic Flap does not have.
It is a quiet detail, easy to miss in a photograph and immediate in hand: a line of smooth leather against the quilting. We check it on every piece before it is listed — for shape, for wear, for whether it still sits flush against the flap.
Every lock, every seam, every corner is inspected before the bag goes up for sale.
Chapter II
Chanel never called this shape “Diana.” The name followed later, after the Princess of Wales was photographed carrying it again and again in the early 1990s — often enough that the story stuck.
It was made for six years only, between 1989 and 1995, then folded back into the archive. Unlike the Classic Flap, it has never been reissued in its original form — what exists now is what survived.
Each piece in this collection carries a manufacture date within that six-year window, checked against its serial number before it was ever listed.
Chapter III
Six years of production left less to work with than almost any other flap Chanel made. What is in stock right now is not a curated selection — it is what exists.
One dates to 1989–1991 and arrived with nothing but its serial sticker. Another, from the early nineties, still carries its original authenticity card. A third comes complete — card, dust bag, box, care booklet.
Every one is graded by hand in Japan before it is listed: the lock’s turn and tension, the plating, the corners, the base. Nothing here is styled to hide thirty-odd years — it is photographed as it is.
